On January 30th, twenty women-owned businesses from across different sectors, including advertising, communications, printing services, consulting and warehousing, and professional services, came together in Jakarta to meet with Citi’s procurement and senior leadership team. In addition, representatives attended from the Committee of Gender and Women’s Empowerment Division of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Committee of International Relations and Public Affairs of the Indonesia Business Women’s Association and the Chief of International Relations and Tourism of the Indonesia Young Entrepreneurs Association.

The event began with videos from key global and regional champions within the Citi Supplier Diversity team that highlighted their commitment to empowering women-owned businesses. This was followed by a welcome and introduction by WEConnect International’s Regional Manager, Mrinalini Venkatachalam. Mrinalini discussed key statistics on the representation of women-owned businesses within global supply chains and provided an overview of WEConnect International’s role in changing the status quo.

2019MTM2This was followed by a presentation by Rina Zoet from IWAPI, who discussed key challenges faced by female entrepreneurs in Indonesia, specifically, and what resources were needed to bridge current gaps.

After the series of presentations, each woman business owner was given five minutes to pitch her business to the audience. Afterwards, the women business owners were able to showcase their brochures and products for relevant follow-up questions and inquiries. The event ended with a networking reception.
