WEConnect International in Europe opens doors to new supply chains. Led by corporate members, it certifies firms in the United Kingdom and Ireland that are at least 51% owned, managed and controlled by women and connects them with the growing global demand from corporations and the public sector for diverse and innovative suppliers. The organization partners with corporations, associations, governments, women entrepreneurs and their supporters, and is affiliated with a global certification network for women-owned enterprises.

WEConnect member, Cisco, recently staged their Connected Women event attended by women from around the world meeting together to discuss critical business issues from a gender perspective. Sue Lawton was there to represent WEConnect.

A new section has been added to the WEConnect website to showcase the latest contracting opportunities for certified WBEs.

The last day or two got me thinking, and the stack of outstanding invoices on my desk had nothing to do with it! There are not many women working in IT (marketing luvvies excluded), let alone running businesses in the sector. Why is that I wonder? Well, it’s a pretty boring industry full of geeks I guess. But there has to be more to it than that - doesn’t there?
