WEConnect International in Europe opens doors to new supply chains. Led by corporate members, it certifies firms in the United Kingdom and Ireland that are at least 51% owned, managed and controlled by women and connects them with the growing global demand from corporations and the public sector for diverse and innovative suppliers. The organization partners with corporations, associations, governments, women entrepreneurs and their supporters, and is affiliated with a global certification network for women-owned enterprises.

On November 5th Accenture hosted a meeting of key people in the development of supplier diversity in the UK. We brought together MNC’s represented by Marianne Schoenig of Accenture, Emma Rees and Gwen Turner of Pfizer, and Lisa Russell of Goldmann Sachs. WBENC WBE’s Terri McNally, Pamela O’Rourke and Vicki Prot brought insight into the opportunities certification brings.

On January 15th South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) Chief Executive, Pam Alexander, as co-Chair of the national Women's Enterprise Task Force (WETF) and lead Regional Development Agency (RDA) for Enterprise met the Rt Hon. Gordon Brown, at No 10 Downing Street for a round table discussion about support for the growth and development of enterprise in the UK. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), the Rt. Hon John Hutton, MP, twenty entrepreneurs, WETF members and advisers.
